How to Stay Motivated as an Insurance Agent

Staying motivated in any industry can be difficult. Staying motivated as an insurance agent? Especially difficult. The field is very front-facing, meaning that you are interacting with clients on a daily basis. While this is a good thing in many ways, it can also be draining. Constantly pursuing leads that may not lead to sales can also be discouraging and feel like a dead end. To overcome these obstacles, one of your top priorities has to come from within — how do you stay motivated through the ups and downs? Read our tips below to stay inspired, eager, and energized as an insurance broker.

1. Create a Motivational Work Culture.

Your work environment significantly impacts how you feel and perform. If you feel drained, it could be a byproduct of an inefficient or toxic work environment. Leaders must be approachable. Managers can help make your work environment more supportive by increasing transparency, making it easy to come to them with problems and addressing problems quickly. One major way to change your work environment is to identify problems and their solutions.

For instance, if your company has one way of doing something that’s inefficient and adds stress to your day, approach your manager with the problem and offer a reasonable, practical solution. Another way to create a motivational work culture is to work as a team. When you work together, you can set goals to motivate each other during tough moments. You can also make workday routines together to build camaraderie and efficiency.

2. Increase Your Personal Motivators.

Building a workplace culture that fosters motivation is helpful, but you also have to work on your own personal motivation. You can start every month or quarter by making a list of your motivations and goals.

Then, you can generate a short outline for how you plan to accomplish each goal. Refer back to this list every few days to ensure that you’re staying on task. Additionally, certain tasks can be tedious. Make them fun by giving yourself small rewards once you complete tasks or using focus apps to make the time go by faster. Speaking of apps, if you’re looking for a good quote tool, we’ve got just what you need.

3. Make Wellness a Priority.

While wellness has become just another buzzword in many circles, it’s actually the key to staying motivated. Certain behaviors can be subtly draining over time. What can you do about it? Your health and lifestyle choices — outside of and during working hours — are something you can control.

Reassess your wellness to help you identify some areas in your life that could use some improvement. Keep these tips in mind:

  • Get 7-8 hours of sleep each night
  • Eat regularly
  • Consume foods that make you feel good
  • Exercise often

Exercise has been shown to reduce stress and increase serotonin, so choose an activity that increases your heart rate, and you’ll feel better after. Lastly, meditation can help reduce your stress.
